Mt rOSA VINEYARD GIBBSTON
Originally established as the renowned Kawarau Station for merino sheep, Mt Rosa faced challenges due to its dry, stony schist soils and harsh winters. In 2000, owner Guy Boanas decided to take a new direction, planting the first grapevines at Mt Rosa. Located in the heart of Gibbston, just 25 minutes from Queenstown, this single estate vineyard has become a notable presence in the region.
Today, the majority of the vineyard is dedicated to Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, and Riesling, with smaller areas devoted to Sauvignon Blanc, Gamay, and Pinot Blanc. Winemaker Dean Shaw of the Central Otago Wine Company has been with Mt Rosa since their inaugural vintage in 2002. Under his guidance, both the vineyard and wine portfolio have expanded significantly. In addition to their exceptional classic wine styles, Mt Rosa has also developed a fantastic mulled wine syrup, perfect for warming up during the winter months.
