TARRAS VINEYARD

Tarras Vineyard is one of Central Otago's most distinctive boutique wineries, set high above the dramatic landscapes of Bendigo on the ancient terraces of the historic goldfields. Established in 2002 by Hayden Johnston, Tarras Vineyard has earned an outstanding reputation for producing exceptional Pinot Noir and premium cool climate wines that capture the power, elegance and individuality of one of Central Otago's most remarkable vineyard sites. The organically managed estate is recognised for its spectacular scenery, world class wines and genuine southern hospitality.

At the heart of the estate lies The Canyon, an extraordinary single vineyard perched above a dramatic schist gorge overlooking the Upper Clutha Valley. The vineyard's elevation, free draining soils and significant day to night temperature variation create ideal conditions for producing Pinot Noir with remarkable depth, structure and longevity. In exceptional vintages, fruit from this site is released as The Canyon Pinot Noir, the winery's flagship wine and one of Bendigo's most sought after expressions of Pinot Noir.

Proudly of Ngāi Tahu descent, Hayden Johnston has built Tarras Vineyard around a deep respect for the land, combining organic vineyard practices with a philosophy of crafting wines that authentically reflect Central Otago's unique terroir. Alongside the Tarras label, the winery also produces KURU KURU Wines, honouring Hayden's fourth great grandmother and celebrating the family's Māori heritage through every bottle. This strong connection to place, family and history gives Tarras Vineyard a character unlike any other in the region.
