COX'S VINEYARD GIBBSTON

Coxs’ Vineyard is a family-owned estate located in the Gibbston subregion of Central Otago. Founded in 1999 by Doug Cox, the vineyard initially operated as a contract grape-growing business for the first 15 years. During this period, local wineries such as Peregrine, Maude, Burn Cottage, Invivo, and Takapoto Estate all benefited from the high-quality grapes produced there. Notably, using 100% Coxs’ Vineyard fruit, Andy Anderson of Takapoto Estate won the International Wine Challenge’s Pinot Noir Gold Trophy for his Takapoto Single Vineyard Gibbston Pinot Noir in both 2012 and 2014.

In 2013, Doug Cox decided to pass on the vineyard to his son, Simon, and his wife, Leah. By 2015, Simon and Leah began producing their own single-vineyard wines while still selling a portion of the fruit to other wineries. Today, Coxs’ Vineyard focuses on crafting single-vineyard Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. They have collaborated with local winemakers like Jenn Parr (Valli) and Sean Brennan (Brennan Wines). Although production at Coxs’ Vineyard has gradually increased, it remains relatively small, totaling approximately 400 cases per year.
