Felton road Wines Bannockburn
Felton Road Wines stands as a prestigious icon in Central Otago and a legendary name in New Zealand’s wine industry. Established in 1991, the winery began with the planting of its first vines on Felton Road in Bannockburn. Since 1998, it has been under the ownership of the unconventional and visionary Nigel Greening, who aimed to position Felton Road alongside the best producers from California, Oregon, and Burgundy’s Côte d’Or.
The wines are crafted by Blair Walter, a former motor enthusiast turned fighter plane aficionado, who has been with Felton Road since the 1997 vintage. His winemaking emphasizes a strong ‘sense of place,’ producing single-vineyard wines from their four distinct vineyards: Calvert, the Elms, MacMuir, and Cornish Point. In addition to their renowned Pinot Noir, Felton Road also offers exceptional Riesling.
All of Felton Road’s vineyards are now managed biodynamically, reflecting their commitment to sustainable practices. Blair’s ‘hands-off’ winemaking philosophy involves using wild yeasts, minimal enzyme additions, and no fining agents. This approach ensures that their wines are authentically produced and showcase the true character of their terroir. Felton Road's wines not only embody New Zealand’s winemaking prowess but also stand out on the international stage.
