DOMAINE-THOMSON wines  CROMWELL

One Grape, One Vision, Two Hemispheres.’ That’s Domaine-Thomson’s slogan, but it sounds like a great movie tagline. Domaine-Thomson has two vineyards; one in Pisa, Central Otago, and the other in Gevrey-Chambertin, Burgundy. One happens to be in Pinot Noir’s original home, and the other is on the opposite side of the world; a place that the grape variety seems to have a natural affinity for.

An interesting feature of Domaine-Thomson is their biodynamic practices. Following the moon and planetary cycles that determine root, leaf, flower and fruit days, making natural ‘potions’ made of nettles, dandelions, oak and other things, and burying cow horns filled with cow manure into the soil to create a nutrient-rich spray that provides ‘earth energy’ for the vines.

David Hall-Jones is the owner, alongside his wife, PM. David has connections to the area’s past, his great-great grandfather was the great ‘Surveyor’ and explorer, John Turnbull Thomson, who mapped out much of Central Otago. Domaine-Thomson wines convey a message of exploration, travel, and adventure, with an important connection with nature, the world, and the past.
