RIPPON VINEYARD
Rippon Vineyard, situated on the western shores of Lake Wānaka in Central Otago, is one of New Zealand’s most iconic and picturesque wineries. Established in 1982 by Rolfe and Lois Mills, Rippon was among the first vineyards in the region and remains family-run today, with their son Nick Mills at the helm. The land has been in the Mills family since 1912, and their deep connection to it is evident in their commitment to biodynamic farming practices, which they adopted in 2002.
Rippon’s vineyards are planted on schist-based soils, rich in mica and quartzite, contributing to the unique character of their wines. They produce a range of varietals, including Pinot Noir, Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Gamay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Osteiner. Notably, their Pinot Noirs, such as 'Emma’s Block' and 'Tinker’s Field,' showcase the distinct microclimates within the vineyard.
Visitors to Rippon can enjoy intimate, appointment-only tastings, offering a personalised experience of their wines. The Rippon Hall, constructed with materials sourced from the property, serves as a venue for weddings, concerts, and events, all set against the stunning backdrop of Lake Wānaka and the Southern Alps. Rippon’s dedication to sustainability, family heritage, and the expression of their unique terroir has earned them international acclaim, including being named the Best Vineyard in Australasia and ranking 8th globally in 2023.
