Born in Rhode Island, USA, Domenic is the grandson of Italian immigrants with a rich heritage of exceptional cooking and winemaking. Growing up with strong family traditions, he learned the art of winemaking from his Italian grandfather, who also imparted the secrets of crafting homemade preserves, prosciutto, and Italian cheeses. Domenic’s early experiences at his grandfather’s table nurtured his passion for pairing wine with food.
With a degree in Culinary Arts from Johnson & Wales University, Domenic moved to New Zealand in 1981, where he made a significant impact in Queenstown as the owner and executive chef of two multi-award-winning restaurants. In 1992, his passion for wine led him to transition full-time into the industry.
Over the past 30 years, Domenic has earned qualifications in Viticulture and Oenology and has played a key role in designing and developing vineyards across Central Otago. In 2001, he and his New Zealand wife, Ally, founded their own vineyard in Bendigo. Their goal was to produce a range of Pinot Noir and Riesling wines that pair beautifully with fine cuisine and great company.
