Mount Edward winery
Nestled in the heart of Gibbston, Central Otago, Mount Edward Winery stands as a testament to the pioneering spirit of New Zealand winemaking. Established in 1997 by Alan Brady—renowned for producing Central Otago’s first commercial Pinot Noir in the 1980s—Mount Edward began as a personal endeavour to craft premium Pinot Noir and Riesling that truly reflected the region's unique terroir.
Today, under the stewardship of winemakers Duncan Forsyth and John Buchanan, Mount Edward has evolved into a boutique winery celebrated for its commitment to organic and minimal-intervention practices. The winery's vineyards, including the historic Drumlin site planted in 1995, are BioGro certified organic. Their approach emphasises wild yeast fermentations, minimal additives, and low sulfite levels, resulting in wines that are vibrant, textured, and expressive of their origin.
Mount Edward's portfolio extends beyond its flagship Pinot Noir and Riesling to include varietals such as Chardonnay, Gamay, Grüner Veltliner, and Chenin Blanc. The winery also produces the TED range—approachable, fruit-driven wines—and experimental offerings like Pet Nat and orange wines, showcasing their innovative spirit.
